People Flock to Wonder Con
San Diego Comic Con had a new record on selling out of tickets to the public this year. The tickets for all available days plus preview night sold out on the convention floor on the last day of San Diego Comic Con last year. When tickets went online to the public, tickets sold out before the day was over.
As a budding comic book artist, I was asked to attend Wonder Con in San Francisco and decided to accept the offer since friends always tell me that it’s a toned down version of San Diego Comic Con (less crowds and Hollywood).
However, the moment I walked into the convention hall, I noticed something off from what my friends claimed. The place was packed! If I was knocked out and blindfolded, I would have believed I was at San Diego Comic Con when I came back to consciousness.
I asked several of my friends at lunch if this was how it usually is at Wonder Con. Which I was informed that this never happened and that they were as shocked as I was by the attendance this year. Even one friend worried for the first time that he wouldn’t be able to attend a panel because the line was unexpectedly long and wrapping around the building.
So fans that went to Wonder Con to get that “Comic Con without too much Hollywood” feel might not be able to get that feeling any longer. My suggestion would be to try out some of the smaller conventions that have been popping up everywhere. Like Long Beach Comic Con that still lets you meet up with the comic creators and chat with them without being dragged away by the rushing current of people down the isles.

I hope you had a good time anyway. Please come and plug your artwork at my Manga Art and Story blog.
Had a fun time. Just wasn’t expecting the amount of people. Only bad part was a restaurant next to the convention center called Chevy’s. But that’s another story.
